This unit involve the skills and knowledge required to perform a rescue from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus in an electrical industry environment. This does not include overhead lines and underground cables.

It includes the organisational workplace requirements for the inspection and use of live LV panel rescue equipment, and how it applies to electricity supply industry (ESI) workers and/or electrical industry workers to meet work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), mobility and mutual aid requirements.

Prerequisites

Participants must hold a current HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate (or HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate). 

Entry Requirements

This course does require reading, writing and numeracy skills. To access the specific LLN form, students will prompted to complete the necessary pre-course assessments in the Allens Training student portal upon registration.

All students who enrol in this course must possess a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number with them.

To obtain a USI, please head to www.usi.gov.au and register. The process takes around 4 min to complete.

5th Point offers the nationally recognised UETDRMP018 – Perform Rescue From A Live Low Voltage Panel unit of competency, in a half-day course, to businesses and individuals. Fully certified TAE Trainers with relevant industry experience deliver the course materials, ensuring that a wealth of experience underpins the training that we offer. Training and assessment delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.

Duration

30 – 60 minutes – (practical) + pre-course reading and formative assessment tasks (approx. 2 hours)

Course Outline

Course learning includes:

  • Introduction to Low Voltage Rescue
    • Electrical legislation
    • Low voltage switchboard rescue – relevant standards and guidelines:
      • AS/NZS 4836 – Safe working on or near low-voltage electrical installations and equipment.
      • AS 2225 – Insulating gloves for electrical purposes
      • AS/NZS 3760 – In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
    • Workplace policies and procedures relevant to industry context
    • Safe approach distances (SAD) relevant to the student’s state/territory
    • Voltage ranges (high/low) and related safe approach distance
    • Duty of care
    • Examples of electrical incidents
    • Responsibilities and obligations in managing electrical risks
  •  Prepare to Perform from a Live LV Panel
    • Assessing hazards and risks
    • Risk management
    • Tagging and isolation procedures
    • Tools and emergency equipment including rescue kits
    • Rescue Kit
    • Rescue equipment
    • First Aid equipment
    • Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Carry Our Rescue from Live LV Panel
  • Communicating and report incident details

Theory Assessment includes:

  • Formative assessment – students will be provided with an assessment paper containing a range of questions, including multiple choice, true and false, matching description and student expected responses.

Practical Assessments includes:

  • Performance Task – Inspect and position LVR Kit and equipment
  • Simulated Scenario – Perform a rescue from a live LV Panel

Certificate Revalidation

Perform Rescue From A Live Low Voltage Panel qualifications are required to the revalidated every 12 months.
