To be ready for use at a moment’s notice, response equipment must be carefully maintained, tested, and prepared. This foundational Response Equipment Training Course provides essential skills for preparing, inspecting, testing and maintaining, equipment specific to your role and industry.

Whether using fire response tools, breathing apparatus, gas test equipment, or chemical spill kits, you will gain practical experience in following organisational procedures and manufacturer specifications. Learn how to inspect equipment for damage, faults, and missing parts, conduct tests to identify defective or underperforming items, and accurately record test results. The course also covers interpreting Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for safe cleaning and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations on wastewater runoff and pollution, as well as storing equipment safely for future use.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for enrolment in this course.

Entry Requirements

This course does require reading, writing and numeracy skills. To access the specific LLN form, students will prompted to complete the necessary pre-course assessments in the Allens Training student portal upon registration.

All students who enrol in this course must possess a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number with them.

To obtain a USI, please head to www.usi.gov.au and register. The process takes around 4 min to complete.

Course Outline

Course learning includes:

  • Inspect Response Equipment
    • Identify hazards
    • Identify and document missing / damaged / faulty parts
    • Understand organisational procedures
    • Understand addressing organisational procedures for addressing faulty equipment
  •  Test Response Equipmenrt
    • Overview of testing procedures
    • Follow Safety protocols and manufacturer specifications during testing
    • Report and record defective equipment
    • Record test results in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational procedures
  • Clean, Maintain and Restow Equipment
    • Demonstrate equipment cleaning
    • Store equipment safely
    • Complete required documentation

Theory Assessment includes:

  • Formative assessment – students will be provided with an assessment paper containing a range of questions, including multiple choice, true and false, matching description and student expected responses.

Practical Assessments includes:

  • Performance Task – Inspect and record faulty/damaged equipment
  • Simulated Scenario – Comply with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS):
    • Complete Equipment Test Result Log
    • Complete Equipment Fault Log

Certificate Revalidation

Prepare, Maintain And Test Response Equipment qualifications are recommended to the revalidated every one – three years.
